Tangbo Secret Spot / Paradise Beach
Direction: Right
Level: Beginner – Advanced
Best wind: South-East, East is ok too.
Best swell size: 3 - 10 ft. Since the waves lose a lot of size wrapping around the tip of the island you actually need a bigger swell for this spot.
Best swell direction: North
Best tide: Mid to high
Best for: People looking for a clean wave to surf in the winter when most of the other spots in the North aren’t working because of the wind.
Crowd factor: Medium. A lot of people do go there in the winter but it’s a big surfing area so you can spread out a little.
Kind of wave: The main peak is actually very fast & technical over shallow reef making it super fun for intermediate and advanced surfers even when it’s small. Be prepared to get thrown ‘over the falls’ a few times and possibly hit the reef. However, down the line the wave mellows out, gets fatter & smaller, and is suitable for longboarding or more beginner surfers. There’s also waves breaking closer to the shore and all over the bay so beginner surfers can always find places to surf here.
Since it’s a long drive from General Luna or even Pacifico people usually spend a lot of time here. There’s a nice beach for chillin’ and you can buy food & drinks on-site so the whole place becomes a bit of a hang out area during the winter. Non surfers will enjoy lounging on the beach so it’s suitable to bring your non-surfing companions.
Surf season:
This spot works during Fall & Winter when we have big swells but there’s too much onshore wind everywhere else. As the big swells wrap around the tip of the island they lose a lot of their size making it perfect for beginners too. During the months of October – March you’ll always find people in Tangbo Secret Spot.
However, in the summer there is simply not enough swell to produce waves here so it will look like a lake when you go there. Cant’ be surfed between May and October but it’s a really nice beach if you just wanna go hang out.
How to get there: Search for Secret Paradise Beach on Google Maps. It’s just around the Northern tip of Siargao in Tangbo. It’s about an hour and a half drive from General Luna or twenty minutes from Pacifico. Once you arrive there a big road going down into the parking area and they will collect a small fee when you enter. The wave is right out front.
