Bay of Burgos (Innertubes, Hapiks, Cloud 69, etc…)

Direction: Lefts & Rights

Level: Beginner – Advanced

Best wind:  West

Best swell size: 2 - 8 ft.

Best swell direction: East, North-East

Best tide: Mid to high

Best for: People staying in the North or those who want to go North for the day to escape the crowds of General Luna.

Crowd factor: Medium. Depends on the day, it is busier now than before but should still be less crowded than the spots in General Luna as there’s less people staying in North.

Kind of wave

Hapiks (Left): Really super fast left-hander that takes awhile to get the hang of. Expect to go ‘over the falls’ a LOT but once you get it, it can be super fun.

Innertubes (Right): They say it’s the easiest spot to get barreled in Siargao. Easier take off and walls up and barrels as you race down the line. This, of course, is under perfect conditions, but even if it’s not it’s still a fun right handed reef-break to test your mettle.

Other spots: There are many spots to surf in the Bay of Burgos including smaller beginner waves closer to the shore for lessons and other risky reef-breaks all along the bay.

Surf season:

This spot works best during the fall which is our peak season for the waves; ground swell & offshore winds. During the winter months of Dec – March it’s basically unsurfable because of the wind except those rare days the wind drops off. Spring is good again! Not as big but clean and fun, think like shoulder high. Summer months: super small but surfable. Knee-waist high waves perfect for beginners or long boarders.

How to get there:

Search for Burgos on Google maps and go there.

Hapiks. You’ll see this break first just as you start decending the hill into Burgos. If you’re looking out to the ocean from the roadside on the hill it’s the furthest break to the right. To get to it you go down the hill into burgos, turn right to enter the town, town right again and follow a small dirt road as far as you can, then you paddle out from there.

Innertubes: Drive down into the town of Burgos and somewhere along the highway you’ll see signs and people and make a right turn to head to the beach. There’s places renting boards & doing lessons there. Innertubes, Cloud 69, and others are right in front.
